Castle Lehndorf in Steinort

reserved for Ribbentrop...

Ribbentrop, Reichsaussenminister and Co Owner of the Champagne company Henkel, had taken over Castle Lehndorf from the 17th Century in Steinort (Sztynort). Ribbentrop was looting art and some of his objects, stolen for him by SS-Sturmbannfhrer von Knsberg, found a save place in the Castle. This gave Steinort a bad reputation as being a collection point for looted artwork. There was another deposit near Steinort, controlled by the Oberkommando des Heeres. It was Castle Boyen, Southwest of Ltzen (Gizycko), which belonged to the ,,Wolfsschanze. Hitler wanted to built a future museum of the Wehrmacht there. When the castle was searched in January 1945 by the arriving Russian troups, no trace of the Amber Room was found.
